In most cases, you can remove Photoshop Elements 12 by running its uninstaller. You can access the installer from the Programs and Features item in Windows 7 and Vista. Of, if you have Windows XP, you can access the uninstaller in the Add Or Remove Programs item in the Control Panel.
Adobe recently released its latest version of Photoshop Elements – Photoshop Elements 2020, they are calling it. In version 12.0, Elements creates a JPEG proxy image in the user's catalog for any Raw/PSD files uploaded to Revel. In 12.1, this JPEG proxy file is hidden from the user. Elements creates this proxy file silently on the disk and deletes the file once it is uploaded to Revel.
If Photoshop Elements 12 isn't listed in the Control Panel, or you receive an error when you try to uninstall it, then you can manually remove it. Manually uninstalling also ensures that the application has been removed completely from your computer.
Note: Some of the steps below require you to identify specific details about the edition of Windows you are using. If you do not know these details, see Determine whether your computer is running a 32-bit or a 64-bit edition of Windows.
Note: It's possible that your system doesn't contain all of the files, folders, and registry entries listed below. If you can't locate a particular file, folder, or registry entry on your computer, then proceed to the next item in the list.
Choose Start > Control Panel, or Start > Settings > Control Panel.
Do one of the following:
- Windows XP: Double-click Add or Remove Programs.
- Windows 7, Vista: If the Control Panel is in a Control Panel Home view, then click Uninstall a Program under Programs.
- Windows 7, Vista: If the Control Panel is in Classic View, then double-click Programs and Features.
In the list of installed programs, select Adobe Photoshop Elements 12, and then click Uninstall or Remove.
Click Remove, and then follow the remaining onscreen instructions to complete the removal.
After you uninstall Photoshop Elements 12, perform the remaining tasks below to ensure that the application has been removed completely.
The Watch Folders service runs in the background on your computer. The service detects photos that you add to folders that are on the Organizer's watch folder list. If this service is running, then you can't remove all of the folders listed in the next section.
Choose Start > Run (Windows XP) or click Start (Windows 7 and Vista).
In the list of services, locate Adobe Active File Monitor V12. If it is not listed, skip this section.
Right-click Adobe Active File Monitor V12, and then do one of the following:
- Choose Stop from the pop-up menu. Proceed to the next step.
- If Stop is unavailable (it is dimmed), then the service is already stopped. Proceed to the next step.
Back up any personal files you want to save from the following folders, and then delete the folders and files for your edition of Windows.
Note: Some of the folders below are hidden. By default, Windows Explorer does not display hidden files and folders. To show these hidden folders, see Show hidden files, folders, and filename extensions.

Photoshop Elements is a cut down version of the professional package. This means you get fewer tools and features, but it’s also a fraction of the cost. It also means that the features have been simplified, making it easier to use. If you’re an amateur enthusiast, then the chances are good that this programme will suit you down to the ground. It occupies the middle ground between the pricey professional software and the freebie programmes. What this means is that you’ll get pretty slick tools without having to break the bank.
Pros: One of the best new additions is the guided edits feature. This is hugely helpful, especially for those who are new to this kind of software. The guide will take you through the various enhancements you can make to improve your photo. Because it’s done step by step, it means that you don’t have to learn all of the ins and outs of the programme first.
Cons: If you’re an advanced user, then you may get frustrated because Photoshop Elements offers fewer features than its big brother. It’s also worth advanced users being aware that this programme won’t deal with RAW images.
Conclusion: Photoshop Elements is a mid-priced package with a good variety of features which makes it ideal for the amateur enthusiast. It’s not the cheapest programme, but its helpful guided edits do make it a worthwhile investment.
